Massage
Depending on your needs, I employ any combination of the techniques I have studied over the years:
- Medical massage
- Myofascial release
- Trigger point work
- Table Shiatsu
- Swedish massage
Before the massage begins, I take a brief medical history to learn what is going on in your body. You don’t need to know which massage modality to ask for unless you have a specific request.I will design a session with your input.
The key to a great massage is communication and a partnership in healing.
You’ll feel refreshed long after you leave your session as your muscles and body are freed
from tightness, stress and toxins.
I always work to integrate the whole body even if we need to focus on one particular problem area. I use a fusion of these modalities in your sessions, depending on your needs.
Myofascial Release
Myofascial release is a form of soft tissue therapy intended to eliminate pain, increase range of motion, and rebalance the entire body. It does this by using massage techniques to stretch, or 'melt', the fascia and release the bonds that exist between the fascia, muscles and bones. Fascia is the connective tissue that connects and covers all muscles, organs, and skeletal structures of the body. Sometimes trigger point work is useful, allowing concentrated points of tightness that are found, to let go. Profound change can happen with the right application of touch.
Swedish Massage
Swedish Massage is a very relaxing and therapeutic style of bodywork. It combines oils or lotion with an array of strokes such as rolling, kneading, and percussion to help the body improve its circulation. The benefits of this type of bodywork are wide-ranging and include relief from aches and pains, decreased stress levels in the body, enhanced mental clarity, improved appearance, and greater flexibility.
Medical Massage
I have certification in Medical Massage from the Swedish Institute in New York City. A medical massage session addresses a specific area of the body only, though I work to integrate the treatment with the rest of the body as well. The massage incorporates many modalities, from Swedish to myofascial release. The anatomy of an area is explored with a view to relieving pain, increasing bloodflow/lymph return, and increasing normal range of motion to the related joints.
Conditions that may be helped include: pain and stiffness resulting from whiplash, headaches , thoracic outlet syndrome, sciatica and more.
Shiatsu
Shiatsu is a Japanese form of massage therapy. The word Shiatsu comes from two Japanese words - "shi" (finger) and "atsu" (pressure). In addition to the direct stimulation of pressure points along the energy pathways of your body, gentle stretching techniques are applied over a wider area of the body to integrate the point work and encourage the flow of Chi (energy) throughout the body. Shiatsu is a meditative healing art that honors the body, mind and spirit. While traditional Shiatsu is done on the floor, I work on a table. Please wear loose clothing of natural fiber, if possible.
Acupressure
Acupressure is based on one of the most ancient principles of healing - that simply touching a specific point on the body will release stress and improve health in the body. In an acupressure session, I apply pressure directly to these "points" on your body, which relieves your muscle tension and improves your circulation. These points are on the same energy channels that are used in Shiatsu. Pressure will be firm or very light, depending on what is needed at the time.
This simple and powerful technique has been shown to very effective in treating headaches, backaches, and even insomnia. It can also help to break up pain patterns, when heavier pressure cannot be tolerated. I often use Acupressure during a regular session to help energy flow through a limb or across a joint.

"As a professional dancer with injuries and an autoimmune disorder, I was desperately searching for a massage that would give me some relief. Satu takes the time in each appointment to address every area of concern with her deep knowledge and experience. Her massages support my body (and mind!) in the short and long term. I am so grateful!"
