ENERGY WORK AND MASSAGE THERAPY, NEW YORK NY

SESSIONS WITH SATU

Supporting you in your journey to renewal and transformation.

Energy is the foundation of the work I do.

Over the years, I've trained in Shiatsu, Acupressure, Myofascial Release, and Reiki — all forms of energy work.

I've recently studied with Jill Leigh of the Energy Healing Institute, completing the Advanced Practitioners Healing Protocols in July 2019. These studies have greatly increased my understanding of energy work and helped me understand the work I've been doing the last 40 years.

I now understand that while all the massage techniques I use are infused with energy work, there’s also a discreet aspect to energy work not necessarily involved with massage.

This is why I offer three distinct session types — Grounded Awareness Energy Work, Massage with Energy Balancing, Massage.

Please contact me for any questions or to schedule a session.

Grounded Awareness Energy Work

This is an off- body technique that minimally employs massage. It works well for people who are willing to do some homework in order to become more autonomous.

What you will experience with this approach

During the session on the table, I will unload the stuck “stuff” in your chakras and auric fields and teach you about your own energy system and chakras.

You will learn:

  • how to be more grounded
  • how to run and refresh your energy
  • and how to process stress and emotions that feel “stuck” in your system.

I will support you in this learning and send you PDFs that illustrate the techniques.

The idea is for you to become more autonomous and self-regulating, and these techniques will help you do that. This energetic cleansing will bring you a sense of lightness and freedom.

The knowledge you bring to energy healing is significant. You’ve tuned into what’s happening with me and taught me tools for grounding and creating boundaries.
— Jane S.

This kind of energetic work is ideal for those who understand that energy is a component in their issues. If you are stressed, exhausted, burned out, or feel stuck in a recurring pattern that does not serve you, energy work can help you resolve long standing issues.

It is important to point out that this is not a replacement for other therapies you may be engaged in. In fact, the more self aware you are the farther the work can proceed.

How I do this work

You will be clothed and resting comfortably on my massage table that has a far-infrared mat* that can be gently heated. I will use some gentle touch on the major joints in your body. I may weave some massage into a session as needed. Overall, it will be very relaxing.

This is a very exciting direction for my practice and I look forward to working with you!

*Studies have demonstrated the far-infrared mat's effectiveness in pain reduction, especially for Fibromyalia.

Massage with Energy Balancing

This kind of session offers an exploration of the intersection between physical massage and subtle touch. There is a continuum of energies from fine to coarse that are interdependent and interwoven in our bodies. It has been my experience that physical tightness, stress and pain in the body are manifestations of tightness, held stress and pain on subtle levels.

In this kind of session, massage is used as an entree to relaxation, while introductory exploration of off-body work is also included.

“It is an easy entrance for those unsure about committing to energy work, or who would like an introduction to it without having to commit to a full session. In my opinion this is one of the most helpful and unique items on your website and it sets you apart from others.” P.C.

Massage

Depending on your needs, I employ any combination of the techniques I have studied over the years:

  • Medical massage
  • Myofascial release
  • Trigger point work
  • Table Shiatsu
  • Swedish massage

Before the massage begins, I take a brief medical history to learn what is going on in your body. You don’t need to know which massage modality to ask for unless you have a specific request.I will design a session with your input.

The key to a great massage is communication and a partnership in healing.

You’ll feel refreshed long after you leave your session as your muscles and body are freed
from tightness, stress and toxins.

I always work to integrate the whole body even if we need to focus on one particular problem area. I use a fusion of these modalities in your sessions, depending on your needs.

Myofascial Release

Myofascial release is a form of soft tissue therapy intended to eliminate pain, increase range of motion, and rebalance the entire body. It does this by using massage techniques to stretch, or 'melt', the fascia and release the bonds that exist between the fascia, muscles and bones. Fascia is the connective tissue that connects and covers all muscles, organs, and skeletal structures of the body. Sometimes trigger point work is useful, allowing concentrated points of tightness that are found, to let go. Profound change can happen with the right application of touch.

Swedish Massage

Swedish Massage is a very relaxing and therapeutic style of bodywork. It combines oils or lotion with an array of strokes such as rolling, kneading, and percussion to help the body improve its circulation. The benefits of this type of bodywork are wide-ranging and include relief from aches and pains, decreased stress levels in the body, enhanced mental clarity, improved appearance, and greater flexibility.

Medical Massage

I have certification in Medical Massage from the Swedish Institute in New York City. A medical massage session addresses a specific area of the body only, though I work to integrate the treatment with the rest of the body as well. The massage incorporates many modalities, from Swedish to myofascial release. The anatomy of an area is explored with a view to relieving pain, increasing bloodflow/lymph return, and increasing normal range of motion to the related joints.

Conditions that may be helped include: pain and stiffness resulting from whiplash, headaches , thoracic outlet syndrome, sciatica and more.

Shiatsu

Shiatsu is a Japanese form of massage therapy. The word Shiatsu comes from two Japanese words - "shi" (finger) and "atsu" (pressure). In addition to the direct stimulation of pressure points along the energy pathways of your body, gentle stretching techniques are applied over a wider area of the body to integrate the point work and encourage the flow of Chi (energy) throughout the body. Shiatsu is a meditative healing art that honors the body, mind and spirit. While traditional Shiatsu is done on the floor, I work on a table. Please wear loose clothing of natural fiber, if possible.

Acupressure

Acupressure is based on one of the most ancient principles of healing - that simply touching a specific point on the body will release stress and improve health in the body. In an acupressure session, I apply  pressure directly to these "points" on your body, which relieves your muscle tension and improves your circulation. These points are on the same energy channels that are used in Shiatsu. Pressure will be firm or very light, depending on what is needed at the time.

This simple and powerful technique has been shown to very effective in treating headaches, backaches, and even insomnia. It can also help to break up pain patterns, when heavier pressure cannot be tolerated. I often use Acupressure during a regular session to help energy flow through a limb or across a joint.
